George Washington Birthday Parade

EVENT FACT SHEET


DATE: Monday, February 20, 2023


TIME: 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.


LOCATION: Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia


ROUTE: Parade Start Point at Pendleton Street & N. Fayette Street. Proceed from the

Start Point South on N. Fayette Street to King Street, then West (right) on King

Street to Commonwealth Ave (passing the Reviewing Stand at King Street),

then right on Commonwealth Ave to Cameron Street. Route maps are available

on the website.


REVIEWING STAND: On King Street at intersection of Commonwealth Ave facing King Street Gardens.


HANDICAPPED: Handicapped viewing area is across the street from the Reviewing Stand.

Handicapped parking will be at Jefferson Houston Elementary School.


COST: Free for the public. $50 parade unit registration required for being in parade.


PARTICIPATING: Those interested in participating in the parade, or are searching for information

on the parade, please visit the website www.washingtonbirthday.com for

registration information. Deadline to register is January 31.


PARKING & On Parade Day, parking is free at some parking lots adjacent to the


TRANSPORTATION Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station and the Huntington Metro Metro Station.

Market Square has parking underneath. As the parade is close to the King Street

and Braddock Road Metro stations, it is encouraged to use public transportation

to attend the event as parking will be severely limited throughout the city.


UPDATES: The Committee maintains a 24-hour phone line that will report any change of

statusor the cancellation of any event (in case of inclement weather, for

instance). The Public is advised to call the EVENTS HOTLINE (571) 384-8170 at

any time for an update. Status updates are also maintained on the GWBCC

website at www.washingtonbirthday.com.

GRAND MARSHAL: The Grand Marshal will be George D. Seghers, Executive Director of the George

Washington Masonic National Memorial, in honor of the 100th Anniversary of

the laying of the Memorial’s cornerstone.
